Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier left Thursday’s game against the Houston Astros with a left wrist contusion.

Precautionary X-rays also came back negative, according to the Blue Jays.

Kiermaier was hit below the left wrist by a 96 m.p.h. fastball from Astros starter Framber Valdez in the bottom of the second inning.

He remained in the game to play defence in the third, but then left for the Jays locker room. Daulton Varsho replaced Kiermaier in centre field for the top of the fourth inning.

Kiermaier missed two games with lower back discomfort last month.

Signed as a free agent this off-season, Kiermaier, 33, is slashing .296/.358/.481 with four homers and 16 RBI this season.

The Gold Glover was hampered by injuries the last two years with the Tampa Bay Rays.
