at SAN JOSE SHARKS 10-8-1

WHY WATCH?

Travelling, and winning, road show:  The Maple Leafs haven’t lost on the road since Oct. 25, when they were schooled in Carolina. Since, Toronto has won five in a row in unfriendly confines, outscoring the opponent 20-8. For various reasons, it’s always worth keeping an eye on rambunctious Sharks defenceman Brent Burns, who has 16 points in 21 career games against the Leafs. If the Leafs emerge with another victory on Friday, it will mark their 10th win in San Jose, coming in 26 games.

THREE THINGS ABOUT THE SHARKS

1. After being shut out by Washington to start a four-game home stand, the Sharks have won their past two. The Leafs know the Sharks will be a tough out, considering San Jose’s win in Toronto a month ago. “I like our team and the way we compete most nights,” coach Bob Boughner said. “I think we’re where we deserve to be, but I think there is another level.”

2. Considering his great numbers, the Leafs probably will face former Toronto goalie James Reimer. The 33-year-old is 6-3-1 with a .936 save percentage and a 2.04 goals-against average in 11 games. “I feel pretty good,” Reimer told the San Francisco Chronicle. “The season is going to be ups and downs. It’s important, not to sound cliche, to just keep working every day.”

3. The Sharks’ penalty kill is 24-for-26 at home, for a 92.3% clip. The Leafs have five goals in 24 power-play opportunities on the road (20.8%).
